All About – Amethyst

Today we’re focusing on another of our favourite crystals, amethyst.  Many of you may or may not know about the wonderful spiritual benefits with that this incredibly versatile crystal has to offer.

History

Amethyst has long been known as one of the most popular and versatile crystals for many many centuries, even as far back as 25,000 BC worn as an emblem by the European Neolithic people.

Amethyst was linked to luxury and the purple seen as a colour of royalty, used in crowns and rings.  Christian bishops wore amethyst rings as an allegiance to Jesus Christ, but the Catholic clergy wore the stone upon a cross, as amethyst had the meaning of celibacy.

The Greeks however, believed that the crystal could inhibit the intoxication of the wearer.  In Feng Shui, the properties point towards wealth and is is encouraged to be placed in the wealth corner of your home in order to increase the flow of prosperity.

Healing in the modern day

Linked to the crown chakra amethyst can be used to clear negative thoughts, soothes irritability, relieves stress and is a balance for mood swings, anger, fear and anxiety.  Working with the the nervous system of our bodies, amethyst can assist with eliminating nightmares and assists with insommnia.  Using the stone in the home or your place of work encourages prosperity and abundance as well as guarding against work-related stress.

Spiritual

Amethyst can active spiritual awareness and facilitates in opening your intuition.  It can help to enhance psychic abilities and as it is a protective stone it allows you to feel safe on your journey into the spiritual.
